ASSISTANT CHIEF’S
NEWS LETTER
March 2008

Members:
This newsletter will be followed by monthly newsletters to keep you informed of training events and fund raisers, also to highlight significant response calls and recognize members who continue to go the extra mile.

For the benefit of the members that have not attended a business meeting since December 2007; the by-laws will be followed strictly this year. That means you will need to attend a minimum of six business meetings and six training meetings or fund raisers in order to maintain an active status and voting rights within ELVFD.

I encourage all members to take advantage of the scheduled alternate training days if for reasons of work or family matters you can’t attend the regularly scheduled training Saturday’s. See the training schedule.
Jason Strickland and I are currently attending a Firefighters Instructors course; at the completion of this course we are planning to conduct a Firefighter 160 course. I encourage everyone without this training to attend; classes will be held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6pm to 10pm and every other Saturday from 7am to 4pm starting in May.

At the date of this news letter we have run over 120 response calls; as the population of our response area increases with the influx of BRAC personnel and their families, our calls for help have increased. This level of activity is starting to show on our response apparatus; we as a Department must take better care of the vehicles and equipment before a failure occurs when we need it most.
If you have spare time feel free to come to the department and assist in house cleaning and equipment maintenance, I will make an effort to be there each Thursday evening for an hour or two.

Please feel free to call me and let me know what you would like to see in my “Assistant Chief’s Newsletter”, if I think it’s appropriate I will put it in.

Thanks for your support to our community,
Bill Barber
